alternate romanizations of liyue characters' names
originally scribbled 17 december 2022.
how did i get here… i was probably thinking about dream of the red chamber or something at that time, since the translation copy we have at home uses the wades-giles romanization system, and i have a hard time parsing how the names were supposed to be pronounced bc of that. that made me start thinking abt how taiwan has a slightly different romanization system, n i was like, "is that wades-giles? is that what they're using?"
so anyway, i think that got me thinking abt the romanization of taiwanese hokkien at work, n since there was nothing better to do, i ended up looking at the wikipedia page for the comparison of standard mandarin transcription systems. and again, since i must emphasize, i had nothing better to do, i ended up writing down what the various characters' names would be in the other systems.
oh yeah, and by the way, the names are listed in traditional chinese dictionary-order, and utilize my family name hc that i came up with a long time ago, just as a heads-up lol

obviously, my favorites in this chart include xingqiu (for having So Much going on across the different systems), hu tao (for 'hwu taur'), keqing (for having ' in literally every single word for the wades-giles), and xiao (for also having So Much going on across the different systems)
overall, i just find it a lot of fun to study the different ways people have thought to transcribe mandarin phenomes into the latin alphabet, bc i will compare n contrast different ways of doing the same thing until i die.
