"liyue" in the peasant tongue is actually "leijyut"

alternatively: *yakity sax starts playing*

(or, more colloquially known as the "married for taxes" au!!)

okay, i should probably explain that title first LOL.

so "leijyut" is the jyutping of "liyue": basically, it's the romanization of the cantonese, rather than mandarin, pronunciation of 璃月. the reason we looked this up at all is bc most of the people we knew in high school spoke cantonese at home; i, xue, am the only one whose family dialect is (arguably) mandarin.

as a result, it's a lot easier to pronounce the liyue char n location names by their cantonese readings, and "leijyut"— pronounced more or less as "lay- yoot"— in particular stuck lol. it's the peasant tongue bc. well. we are all peasants, hailing from ancestral lines of peasantry.

and also, mandarin is the standard chinese dialect. one does not simply become the standard dialect of a language by not being spoken by the people in power.

anyway, i'm pretty sure this was the very first au nat n i ever came up with for genshin!! we stayed up literally until five am one night plotting the xv (main) plotline of this au… good shit, man.

this hypothetical au (that i still delusionally want to write someday lol) would have at least four installments. since the existing ones revolve around the liyue cast, the series title is currently " 'liyue' in the peasant tongue is actually 'leijyut'" — if we were to expand into the other nations, the series title would switch to "*yakity sax starts playing*". for now, though, it is (and will likely remain) the leijyut au.

Summary:

Xiao doesn’t expect his college years to be anything spectacular, just four years of classes, labs, homework, and proofs. But, when his astronomy lab partner Venti asks if they can get married for the tax benefits, Xiao just can’t find it in himself to say no.

It was supposed to be a favor to a classmate in desperate need of his help, yet between the wedding chaos and the schoolwork woes, Xiao finds himself struggling to figure out the truth behind his own feelings and motivations as time goes on— and why has his time with Venti been drawing out so many of the childhood memories he’s worked so hard to repress?

While Venti needs the roommate and tax breaks desperately, roping Xiao in particular into his problems might not have been the best way of going about things.

Well, as painful as it is that Xiao seems to have forgotten everything, Venti is just as stubborn in his belief that he can bring those memories back to light.

Stubborn… or desperate? Only time will tell.

Summary:
