(back to blank slate overview)
worldbuilding & setting notes
so, technically, this au is set in far future post-canon, meaning that despite the modern college setting, fantasy elements such as immortality, (dead) visions, and the adepti are still around and plot-relevant. the Traveler had already long ago landed (and possibly had long since left?) teyvat by the start of the story, but aside from established immortals, none of the canon characters were around to witness it, instead all being born in this later time period so that the cast can all be together. some other guys were doing the canon plots somehow idk.
now, because the Traveler has already run through the plot of genshin, we're gonna run off my own post-series headcanon of #FuckCelestia (which basically means that they are gone now! no more celestia :D). as a result, there's a lot less divine intervention. probably bc the archons might've given up a significant portion of their powers or gnoses or smth to eliminate celestia— idk it's kind of handwavey bullshit (don't worry about it) lol.
anyway, while Visions had been a thing in the past, there are none which are actually alive anymore, so what remains are just the dead cases as relics of the bygone time. people are fully aware of the past existence of immortals like the archons and adepti n stuff; however, technology has progressed to the point where it's not Really a big deal anymore, and i feel like most immortals just wouldn't have any reason to tell people they're immortal anyway, so it's not something most people think about regularly.
ganyu, being one of those old immortals, still has her vision, but as i said earlier, it's just an empty casing she keeps for sentimental reasons these days. why she's attending college when she lived through history is kind of like. Don't Worry About It. maybe she's just attending college to get an idea of what life is like for young people these days bc she's still struggling with feelings of isolation and social disconnect.
and i think it would just be more interesting to let ganyu still be an archon war veteran in this au, esp. when it comes to the fact that she's been assigned to write an essay about events she witnessed firsthand.
