gacha games & their community culture

so a while back i was tasked with explaining gacha games and arguing for the fact that its gamers form a unique community with its own culture. it was a partner project done with a fellow gacha gamer, so he obviously understood what was going on, but after a while we also realized, "oh! wow! no one in the mainstream knows what the fuck gacha games are from a community perspective!!"

anyway he doesn't know i have this website (and he probably never will we love meeting irl weebs), but nat, as one of my primary sources and references?? of sorts??? in this project, ended up also taking interest in the subject of archiving this kind of information, so now we're here!

anyway (2) so here are the essays n stuff

genshin impact and compassion for gacha gamblers

technically written before the gacha project began, but this particular essay covers observations i've made abt the very real disdain from outsiders experienced by people who don't play gacha games

gacha gamer glossary

pretty much exactly what it says on the tin!! it's an in-detail glossary of gacha terms as written by people already drowned in gacha community and culture!

gacha community class structure

what so few people in the mainstream realize is that whales play a role in the ecosystem– and by extension, so do the other gacha gamer types.
